How Heat Pumps Work
The heat pump is an efficient and economical home energy system. It is the only two-for-one system that effectively heats in winter, and cools in summer. This means year-round comfort to you and your family.
A heat pump does not make heat. It works by moving, or pumping heat from where it is not needed to where it is needed.
In fact, it operates on the same basic principal as a common home appliance: your refrigerator.
Heat pumps in winter
During cold weather the heat pump removes heat from the outside air and pumps it indoors.
How can frigid air hold heat? In fact, air at zero degrees Fahrenheit holds 82% of the heat it held at 100 degrees! This is an absolutely clean source of heat available to anyone with a heat pump.
Heat pumps in summer
During hot weather the heat pump operates much like a central air conditioner. It pumps heat and humidity out of your home, into the outside air, and keeps your home comfortable even on the most scorching summer days.
