The key to mold control is moisture control. It is important to dry water damaged areas and items within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.
If mold is a problem in your home, get rid of the excess water or moisture. Correct any of the following problems:
Plumbing leaks,
Roof leaks,
Improper grading,
Disconnected gutters, downspouts, and extenders,
Proper discharge of sump pump,
Proper discharge of condensate pump,
Proper discharge of air conditioner evaporator condensation, and
Poor caulking in showers and bathtubs.
Dry all materials that have become wet completely. Absorbent materials (such as ceiling tiles and carpet) that become wet or moldy may have to be replaced.
