Cable Outlets and Telephone Jacks

Testing, inspection, analysis, or opinion of cable outlets and telephone jacks is not within the scope of a home inspection. Information is presented here as a courtesy to Client.

The terms “outlet” and “jack” are used to indicate that cable or telephone, respectively, was present in a room. Installation sometimes is through a simple hole in a ceiling, wall, or roof for older structures. Inspectors do not look for cable, cable outlets, telephone wire, or telephone jacks. And just because an outlet or jack was found doesn’t necessarily mean that there is cable or wire present at the outlet or jack.
If you need cable or telephone service in any specific room, it is best to check that room yourself once all furnishings and storage have been removed; do not rely on the inspection report for information that we are not specifically looking for. The cable company or telephone company can also help you determine where cables and wires have already been run and whether or not they are live. They, or a general handyman, can also run cables and wires to other locations where you want such services.
