Radon Is a Cancer-Causing, Radioactive Gas
You cannot see, smell, or taste radon. But it still may be a problem in your home. When you breathe air containing radon, you increase your risk of getting lung cancer. In fact, the Surgeon General of the United States has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today.
EPA recommends that you know what the indoor radon level is in any home you consider buying.
Testing is a relatively easy process and the results can tell you whether you have an elevated radon concentration (greater than 4.0pCu/l). If your home has an elevated radon concentration, mitigation can be performed to reduce the level to a non-elevated concentration.
If you contracted Rook Home Inspections LLC to test for Radon Gas, the analysis of the radon canister will be sent to you separately. The average radon concentration in the air at the sampling location during the test period was ______ (insert radon gas concentration sent separately) picoCuries per liter of air.

If the result was higher than 4 pCi/L, the EPA recommends that a follow-up test be taken to confirm the results of the first test. We can follow up with either a long-term test or a short term test:
- For a better understanding of your year-round average radon level, take a long-term test.
- If you need results quickly, take a second short-term test.
Once we get the results of the second short-term test, the more certain we can be whether radon mitigation is required. Radon mitigation should be considered if the average of the first and second test is 4 pCi/L or higher. The DEP and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) both recommend that you take action to mitigate your home if your test results indicate radon levels of 4.0 pCi/L of radon or more.
You can find additional information regarding radon levels at the EPA website and at the NJ DEP website.
Rook Home Inspections LLC assumes no liability for the placement of test canisters. All test canisters are supplied by independent EPA testing laboratories (Radiation Data, Skillman, NJ). No warranty is issued against variations in other testing obtained prior to or after results of the referenced tests refer to Radon Agreement that is an integral part of this report.
