Termite and other Wood Destroying Insects Inspection |
Subterranean Termites
Statistics show that termites in the United States may cause more damage than fires and severe weather. In particular, Subterranean Termites, the termites found in New Jersey, are the most damaging of all the different types of termites.
In order to thrive, Subterranean Termites need high humidity and a constant source of food (wood or cellulose). They also prefer warm areas over cooler areas. Houses with wood in contact with heated soil are sometimes infested with termites.
Subterranean Termites utilize mud tubes/tunnels to travel between the earth and the wood. In the spring, swarmers (winged reproductive termites) leave the nest and fly around looking to start a new colony. Winged termites are the most commonly seen termites and can be confused with flying ants.
